Join us at Stowe near Buckingham, renowned for its gardens, as we perform Puccini’s Madam Butterfly in the Roxburgh Hall Theatre, on 18 and 20 July 2025.

Madam Butterfly, one of the most performed operas in the world, is set on a hilltop in Japan in the early years of the twentieth century.  A beautiful score woven with fragments of Japanese folk songs, the heart breaking story is of a young girl, forced to  become a Geisha before being married off in a local ceremony to an American naval officer.  She falls in love with him, but he returns home and marries an American wife.  After several years of waiting for her love to return Butterfly is forced to accept that she has been deserted and must decide on her future.

Arcadian Opera, renowned for bringing classical grand opera to Stowe using state of the art projections, employ professional singers for the principal roles, a chorus of talented and experience local singers, accompanied by a professional orchestra.

Our performances begin at 4pm to allow for an hour and a half interval in which to enjoy your picnic in the environs of the theatre situated within Stowe Landscape Gardens.
